Founded in 2021 by Nicole Katzman, Taos Tintype grew out of a long-standing love of analog photography and a desire to share a nearly forgotten craft with the local community. With roots in the darkroom dating back to her high school years and formal studies in photography, Katzman taught herself the wet plate collodion process and has spent the past five years refining her practice. After moving to Taos and becoming inspired by the innate artistic spirit of the town, she saw an opportunity to use an historic method to illuminate the modern era.

Tintype photography is an antidote to the lifestyle of disposable snapshots and leaves the guest with a one-of-a-kind heirloom that will last a lifetime. Taos Tintype strives to be a thread for both the neighbors and the visitors that ties everyone together through an art form that forces you to slow down and just enjoy the process.
